How to choose portable oxygen
- Cylinder kit: a small medical oxygen cylinder in a shoulder bag with a flowmeter, for patients who use oxygen and need to go out for a few hours.
- Oxygen cans: light aerosol cans with a mask cap for short breaths of oxygen during travel or after exercise. They are not a medical oxygen supply.
- How long it lasts: the kit gives about 5 to 6 hours at 2 litres per minute. A can gives short breaths only, so it is not for continuous use.
- Refills: the kit cylinder can be refilled, and we confirm the price by phone. Oxygen cans are not sold as refillable.
Portable kit or full-size cylinder?
For oxygen at home, a full-size China, Islam or Linde cylinder lasts much longer and costs less per hour. Choose the portable kit to take oxygen with you outside the home. In Dhaka you can also rent a full-size cylinder.

Safety with portable oxygen
- Keep cylinders and cans away from flames, smoking and heat, including inside a parked car in the sun.
- Do not puncture, heat or burn an oxygen can, even when it is empty.
- An oxygen can is not a treatment. If someone is short of breath, call a doctor or go to hospital.
- Follow the patient's doctor on the flow rate for the cylinder kit.
Questions
Are oxygen cans refillable?
No. The oxygen cans we sell are not sold as refillable, so replace a can when it is empty. The cylinder in the portable kit can be refilled; call us for the price.
Can an oxygen can replace a medical cylinder?
No. A can gives short breaths of oxygen for comfort. Patients who need oxygen therapy should use a medical cylinder or concentrator as their doctor advises.
How long does the portable kit last?
About 5 to 6 hours at 2 litres per minute when full. A higher flow empties it faster.
Can I take an oxygen can on a plane?
Airlines set their own rules on oxygen and aerosol cans. Check with your airline before you travel.
